A Message from Mrs. Portenier

July 18, 2019

Dear SHS Students and Families –

It is our number one priority at SHS to ensure that every student receives the most well-rounded education possible.

I am pleased to share some of the exciting and outstanding programs at Savannah High School. We provide a variety of academic offerings including Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment Courses. Our Core Content Programs continue to challenge and prepare students for academic success.  Our Practical Arts Programs continue to grow and to offer multiple opportunities.  These include Agriculture courses, Business courses, Family and Consumer Sciences courses, Health Occupational courses and other programs offered through our partner Hillyard Technical Institute. The course offerings in Savannah High School’s Performing Arts programs add another layer of sophistication and culture to our students’ lives.  Our students’ exposure to music, art, and theater programs enriches their outlook on the world and allows them to appreciate and respect the beauty that surrounds them.  Athletically, all of our athletic programs continue to give Savannah High School a sense of pride, unity, and respect, both for ourselves and the surrounding community.

Our many campus activities provide Savannah High students the chance to explore their leadership and creative skills.  In addition to the opportunity to get involved and grow in a leadership capacity, our campus activities provide students a vehicle to strike a needed balance between their academic and personal lives in order to flourish as current and future productive, fulfilled citizens.

Most importantly, an excellent education is not possible without the great collaboration of students, parents, and staff. Over the years, I have had the privilege of getting to know some of the amazing students, parents, and staff at SHS, while also learning about the rich school history and success. One of the greatest takeaways from these conversations has been the immense enthusiasm and pride for the school and community. It is through that same enthusiasm and pride that I look forward to working with each of you to continue the great successes at SHS.

As we work together, I am confident that our student’s academic, social, and extracurricular needs will be met. Thank you for your support of our school! Best wishes for a successful school year!

Kindest Regards,
Sarah Portenier
Principal, Savannah High School
